IP controls packet sorting and delivery. Each incoming or outgoing packet, or IP datagram, includes the source IP address of the sender and the destination IP address of the recipient. IP is responsible for routing. If information is being passed to another device within a subnet, the datagram is sent to the appropriate internal IP address. If the datagram is sent to a destination that is not on the local subnet (for example, when you are accessing the Internet), IP examines the destination address, compares it to a route table, and decides what action to take. Windows Vista supports both Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). The 70-620 examination is unlikely to test IPv6 configuration. However, you do need to know that IPv6 exists and how to check whether it is enabled because the protocol is used to implement features in Windows Vista for example, Windows Meeting Space.

ISA Server supports three types of clients: Firewall clients, SecureNAT clients, and Web Proxy clients. Firewall clients provide the highest level of functionality but do require the installation of the Firewall Client software. SecureNAT clients are the easiest to configure because they do not require any application installation or configuration, but SecureNAT clients do not support user authentication. Web Proxy clients are any computers that run HTTP 1.1 compatible Web browsers. The applications must be configured to use the ISA Server computer as a proxy server. As you prepare to deploy ISA Server, you must choose an ISA Server client that best meets your organization s requirements. Factors that you should consider when choosing the client include protocol and operating system support, support for authentication, and the effort required to deploy the clients.

You can view the IP configuration on a computer by opening the Command Prompt window. You can access it either by selecting Accessories and then Command Prompt on the All Programs menu, or by entering cmd in the Run box. If you are examining command outputs from the Command Prompt window, it is useful to redirect them to a text file. You would not do this if you were using the Command Prompt window to enter configurations, but it is useful for studying the detailed information that some commands return. We shall try it initially with a fairly small output file, but it is particularly useful for commands that return a lot of information (for example, ipconfig /all or ipconfig / ). The ipconfig command displays a computer s IP settings. To capture the output of the ipconfig command in a text file, follow these steps: 1. Open the Command Prompt window. 2. Type ipconfig > ipconfig.txt, as shown in Figure 7-1.

We start with the basic node. At this point layoutBounds is calculated. Any effects are performed (reflections, drop shadow, etc.), as specified by the node s effect property. If the cache property is set to true, the node may be cached as a bitmap to speed future updates. Opacity is applied next, as per the opacity property. The node is clipped according to its clip property, if set. At this point boundsInLocal is calculated.

The biggest advantage of using the SecureNAT client or Web Proxy client is that you do not need to deploy special software for either. Both the SecureNAT client and the Web Proxy client, however, still require some configuration. This lesson describes how to configure SecureNAT and Web Proxy clients, how to use ISA Server to automate the configuration of the Web Proxy clients, and how to troubleshoot issues for both clients.

Use Microsoft Notepad to open the ipconfig.txt file, which you will find on the directory from which you ran the command. (In the example shown, this is C:\Users\parent_admin.) The information in the file depends on the interfaces that are configured on the computer, but you should obtain an output similar to Figure 7-2.
